It all started when...
Where do we start? Hi, I'm Emily Pence, owner of Sixpence. Some of my favorites may remember me as Emily Watkins. I started my career in Charleston, SC, as a Stylist at Stella Nova, Charleston's most exclusive salon and spa. I became a master level stylist, and my work has been featured in many local and national publications. I've flown to event weddings, and I've taught other stylists. I've even picked up a few industry awards along the way. But something was missing, and trips to the upstate to visit family gave me an idea... what if I finally dared to open my own salon? I dreamed of a beautiful, friendly, and talented place, and Greenville's wonderful West End Arts district was calling.
I'd always especially loved helping brides perfect their "big day" look, and I planned from the very beginning to make that a big part of Sixpence.
Where did the name "Sixpence" come from? Have you ever heard this bit of good luck advice?
"Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a sixpence in her shoe"
For hundreds of years, brides have been honoring the tradition of wearing a sixpence in their shoe on their wedding day to bless the marriage with wealth and prosperity. I love this sweet tradition, and it was a natural fit with my last name! My logo even incorporates the traditional sixpence coin- take a look!
